Switched by Amanda Hocking (Trylle Series #1)

Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)

Blurb:

When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right.

With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.

My Thoughts:

I have to say I was a bit shocked and impressed by Amanda Hocking.
At first, I was sorta on the fence, since the first chapter was good and all, but not a WOW! like expected, but still, it made an impact.

But after Wendy met Finn, I was hooked!

I know, I'm a sucker for the paranormal dude. And besides, that twist in there! I didn't expect it! And now I want to write about what she's writing about, lol.

The only thing that let me down was, strange enough, the editing! There were typos in it, and that just killed me! And there were enough of them for me to notice and wonder if she's republishing these books, they should be clean. Why aren't they?

*slams head into desk*

But I'll let her slide. The books was good. Let's break it down on why it was such a good solid book.

Plot: Even though the ending was predicable, I'll let it slide since it was realistic and I loved it all the same! It was like the perfect ending!

I almost smiled, and I almost cried at some parts. So you know it was good. So don't worry about the ending, it's good and just right.

So realistic, I would have done the EXACT same thing!

Overall though, the plot pace was a bit off to me. It just seemed too fast in some places and not fast enough in others. I don't want to give the book away, so I'll just say that some explanations were a little over explained.

I get why she did it though! I totally do, but some things didn't need that many repeats, especially near the end. You might catch on to what I'm saying when you read the book, but you might not catch it.

I could just be picky, but the plot itself was fine. I liked how everything was set up, the foreshadowing was wonderful, and the whole plot line and ideas were fantastic.

I have to say, Amanda Hocking got some original ideas! I like it!

Characters: I LOVE all of her characters! To me, there wasn't one character that wasn't realistic. And, surprisingly enough, not one bitchy character either.

Oh, I almost forgot! I lied. Never mind. There are some witchy characters, just not in the typical way.

Anyway, loved Wendy! She's cool, down to earth, and I like the fact that she's so . . . Wendy! I don't know how to put it, but I like her.

I LOVED Finn! He actually reminds me A LOT of my character, Erik! The whole emotionless part to him, I love! It just makes it so much more enjoyable when he cracks and shows some emotion. Love him! I'd love to have him for Christmas!

*bats eyelashes*

Anyway, I also love Rhys! He just so charming. Now that I think of it, he reminds me of my character, Florence. Except he's a lot better.

Yes, I just said that a writer created a better character then I did. *shrugs* I'm willing to admit it!

Oh yeah, I could list more characters (probably the whole character list!) but I won't! :) Just know: The characters are phenominal! I could sit with them and chat about them all day long.

Seriously.

Dialogue: Realistic from each character. The frazzled Wendy, the protector Matt, and the funny Rhys. I could tell all of their different voices in my head easily. Finn's was a little bit more difficult, but in the end, I loved his dialogue and the way he speaks. It's curt and straight to the point.

Ending: Realistic. Great. Wonderful. Moving onward!

Setting: Loved it! I like how we kinda switched gears throughout the book. I don't want to give TOO much away, but I liked it alot. I could keep up with it quite easily, and I kinda liked the change of scenery.

The biggest question: Would I recommend this book to anybody?

ABSOLUTELY!!! Get your buns over . . .

Oh wait. I forgot. The book isn't out yet. :D

Silly me! It comes on January 3rd, 2012!

I got the advanced reader copy thanks to LibraryThing!

Can you say yeah buddy!?

*cheers*

Anyway, anyway, I would highly suggest you pre-order your book right now! Along with the other two. The way she ended it, I SOOOOO want all the other books in the series, right now! Yes, Amanda Hocking, I want all of your books in my bed. Right now!

So get to work!

@TToria-Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@DM-Yeah, I've always wondered about the author. And I have to say, I love her work, but I'm kinda appalled that two editors went over her work and didn't notice the multiple typos there. Or even worse: That she didn't correct it! So yeah.

Thanks for stopping by friend. I'm glad I could help!
